Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver a hot lunch during the week and evening/weekend frozen meals (microwavable) if requested. Meals on wheels are available to individuals and their live-in companion (spouses) with a referral on a short-term or long-term basis. We make every effort to accommodate an individuals needs delivering daily or just a couple days a week, one or two meals a day. A doctor’s order is required and will be obtained from the physician directly by Estuary staff or through a visiting nurse or hospital discharge planner. Service is usually able to start the day following referral.

Meals provide a diverse menu cycle – something to look forward to every day. Milk, bread, dessert and/or fruit are included with the entrée. All meals are low in salt. Meals are delivered by a smiling volunteer or staff person.

If the individual will not be home, arrangements to leave the meal in the refrigerator must be made ahead of time with the office. No meal will be left outside the door or on the counter.

If the individual is not home when the meal arrives, the office will be notified and the emergency contact will be notified. The meal will be returned to the café.

Meals on wheels volunteers deliver a wonderful meal, a friendly dose of socialization as well as a safety check. If you have some time available and would like to help, please call the office at 388-1611 for information. We appreciate seasonal and well as regular volunteers.

The suggested donation for a meal is $2.50. A monthly donation request will be mailed to the recipient or a responsible party. No one will be denied a meal because of inability to contribute towards the meal. Gift certificates are available for a special occasion.
